Si legge in Checchetelli che vi fu chi censurò il Colosseo e il primo fu un certo Sebastiano Serlio,dicendo le cornici parergli tedesche concludendo che l’architetto,quel Gaudenzio di cui si fa memoria nel sotterraneo di S.Luca e che fu fatto morire perchè si seppe essere cristiano e che doveva essere nato in Germania o almeno trarne l’origine.
